I asked Windsor about his number. “Back in the day, my favourite NASCAR driver was Terry LaBonte and that’s where I got the number 5 and I have kept it. It seems to be good luck for me.”
Since sponsorship seems to be such a difficult issue these days, Windsor was asked how he was doing in this department. “ I took a hit in sponsorship this year. With the economic times, they had to cut back. Maybe with a championship win, it will bring on more sponsors.”
On Thursday Windsor had some handling difficulties and Bruce Johnson was having mechanical problems, so they went back to MacLean’s shop and worked on both cars for most of the night and it seemed to have paid off. He’s hoping to come out with a top three to five finish with no expectations of winning.
“I love it here. Beautiful country. The people are awesome. The track and this facility are unreal. I can’t say enough about MacLean Motorsports giving me the opportunity to race here. I can’t thank them enough. I would like to come back and bring my own car.”
Windsor’s closing comments were “I’d like to thank my Dad for getting me into this and Scott MacLean for helping us through the years with the set-up. Many long distance conversations were held, getting the car set-up properly. And, of course, without my sponsors back home, I wouldn’t be able to do this at all.”
Editor’s note: Chad ran well that evening and actually captured the 50 lap Legend feature. Unfortunately, Legends have a very strict weight rule and Windsor failed by two pounds and was disqualified. Expect Windsor to be back in the Fall.
