Tim Terry - The Man Behind the Mike

Tim Terry, from Truro, NS, who just graduated from high school last year, is fast becoming a popular announcer. “ I’m not employed right now. It’s one of the downfalls of the current economy. I’m interested in broadcasting but the past two years, my interview for NSCC got declined. I don’t know the reason. I’m going to try again next year.”

Terry continued “ My Dad brought me to the track in 2000 and I’ve been hooked ever since. I emailed Ken Cunning four years ago. He said it was up to Mike Kaplin. I’ve been here ever since and Mike (who is now retired) taught me the ropes.”

“This year, in addition to my Scotia Speedworld duties, I also announce for the Pro Stock Tour. I like the interaction with all the fans. The racing is great here (at Scotia) with a good car count this year. A lot of work, a lot of preparation, but it’s all worth it and the Tour this year is keeping me on my toes.”

Hearing about Tim’s involvement with fantasy racing, I asked him to explain “ I’m involved in some of the on line racing that you can get into fairly cheaply. You can get a steering wheel, pedal combination from any electronics store. You can get a simulator most anywhere or you may know someone who has one. You join in with a group of people and try your luck. It takes a lot of practice but once you get into it, it’s lots of fun. We have two on line networks, OLR tv.com and RLM tv.com. We have some some of the best broadcasters from all over North America doing the shows.”

“After the Friday night show (at Scotia) we leave early Saturday morning for the Pro Stock show, wherever it may be.” was Tim’s closing comment.
