Scott Hall hails from Jollicure, New Brunswick. The Hall family have always been race fans, now they are actively involved in the sport. “I always had a love for racing. My brother and I wanted to go racing. Back in ‘96, my brother and I decided to do it but he wanted to drag race but I wanted to race stock cars. He, being the older brother, got his way and we built a drag car, a 67 Camero. Now my son Corey also drag races, but at heart, we’re really NASCAR fans.”
Hall went on to say “My son Corey got the idea that we should come up here and play with a car. The car is a 98 Cavalier. It was my son’s idea for the car, because he was born in 98, so we also chose the number 98.”
Being involved in different types of racing, Hall was asked if he had claimed any championships as yet. “In Miramichi, at the Drag Track, we came third despite missing a race so we’re really doing well. I used to race snowmobiles too.”
“ I’ve won three Features here at Centre for Speed this year so far, including the Opening day 35 lapper. We’ve had some problems along the way but we handled them.”
In any race career, accidents are a part of the game but some always stand out in your mind. I asked Scott about his. “We were wrecked here a few weeks ago. Everything was really drilled in. My son and I spent 14 hours repairing the damage and when we were finished, we saw the radiator leaking and I could see another 14 hours of work. Then I scoffed, this is for fun so lets just leave it.” He continued “We can’t be here for all the races, we’ll probably miss three, so we’re not really going for the points.”
Racing also has it’s funny moments, so I asked Scott what stands out in his mind. “We used to pit beside a guy at the Drag races where the pits were long so everyone usually takes something to travel around in. I take my son’s four wheeler but the guy next to us had an ATV. He put a picnic table on top of it with a canopy and drove that around the pits. There could be up to six people driving on that.”
Hall then went on to say, “I’m a second generation mechanic and that makes it easier and cheaper to do many of the needed repairs. Corey is my common sense - he watches everything and sees everything. He puts as many hours as I do in the car and tells me what’s wrong. It’s the same in Drag racing, he does all the times. We work well together.”
“This is just what it’s called, “Four Fun”” was how Hall concluded the interview.
