over all. Five of those was in Go-Karts. Then I started with Street Stocks and I’ve never looked back.”
Roy drives the #26 Sportsman. He was asked how he came by that number. “ It’s my number. It’s not anything anyone else had, not even in NASCAR so I made it my own. I was the only one.:
Then I asked if he had won any championships. “No championship yet. Was hopeful for this year but we are a little further behind in points than we’d like. Hoping to have a little more for Kenny next year.”
The economy being the way it is, Roy was asked about sponsorship. “We have one main sponsor who has with us since day 1 in Go-Karting. “SericeMaster Clean” has been on the car for a decade. Clark Toyota has been with us for four years. I know its hard now to get sponsors. I’m very thankful for the ones we have. They are very loyal. We walk in there to ask for something and they call you by your name and ask you how the racing is going.”
Being in the race circuit for 11 years, accidents must of happened to him so I asked him about it. “This car, it was the first race. We ended up in the fence in turn 2. A brand new car, we didn’t even get three laps into the feature. I think the worst was when Glyn Nott went through the fence in turn 3. He went out of sight.”
The next question, which usually stumps all drivers, was no different with Roy. The question was “What is the funniest thing you’ve seen at the track?” Roy replied “Can’t think of anything at the track but at the banquet everyone started dancing on the tables. It was pretty late when this happened so I left. LOL”
He went on to say “I’m nicknamed “The Camry Kid”. Mike Power named me that. He didn’t ask me or say a thing. He did an interview with me early in the week. I got up early Saturday morning and grabbed the paper and there it was. “The Camry Kid, Ready for another race.” The next week he put it on my car and it stuck with me ever since.”
Power told me that I wouldn’t win. Anybody I interview doesn’t win their next race. I’ve had a long turn of bad luck. We were the first one of 200 articles to win.”
In closing Roy was asked if he had any comments, “Thankful to be here every week.” He replied.
