August 18th Update

Hello race fans! Its been a whole month since my last update and longer since I was at LDMS.A rain out forced our last race to be canceled, but this Sunday made up for it in both nice weather and action packed racing.

The day started off sunny and soon the heat was upon us to make for a great day in the stands for the fans. There was a few  new faces,or new for this season I should say.Joe and Doug Chetwynd were at the track with their cars and Greg Banks came down to have some fun in the 4 cylinder class. The 00 of Greg Cottreau was back in the six class, and Jason Bishara had his 6 cylinder car up and running.

The Pit Canteen had a new cook for this race, special thanks to Rose Hurlburt. Also Frank Hurlburt donated a victory lane sign that will be used for photos of winners.I was back in the flag stand, having a great time. Also need to thank Jason Bishara for the use of his tow truck. There are no photos this week, our photographer had prior commitments.

Races started with the 4 cylinder class taking to the track first. It was not long before the number 6 car of Greg Comeau was back up front battling for the lead with the 84 car of Blair Penny. The 69 car of Alan Fitzgerald seemed to be working well in the first heat as he was racing hard with the 88 of Dave Boudreau for 3rd position. The 88 did finally get the pass completed but the #69 did give it a good fight.Clutch problems had the 69 running in the back the rest of the day.The #6 car dominated the day but not with the same driver every race.Frank Hurlburt run one race and won with the #6 car.Frank drove one race in the 69 car but the clutch was gone by then and it was not performing properly.

The 6 cylinder class had three new cars show up this week.Jason Bishara with his #45,Joe Chetwynd with his #65 and Doug Chetwynd with his #72.One car missing was the #25 of Larry Gavel. The first race in the 6 cylinder class had a very decent field to start. It was not to last. The #69 car of Kevin Fitzgerald was the first one off with a bad ignition coil,he had bad luck the rest of the day never finishing a race. The car is good when its working, just needs some luck to turn things around.Only a few laps after the 72 car was out with over heating problems.Close to the last lap the 08 of Larry Hayes blew an oil line and was out for a couple races.First race was won by the #56 of Paul Morris. That would prove to be one of his best runs for the day.

With a higher car count the racing in the 6 cylinder class was exciting, with lots of side by side racing. The Poole bothers had the truck tuned up and giving both Paul Morris and Willard Hurlburt a hard time. The second race had the wreck of the day happen when what appears to be a cut tire caused the #56 to spin wildly out of control down the back stretch where he jumped the inside berm, flying over the line up lane landing on all four wheels in the drainage ditch in turn 3.He was not hurt and after some hard work was back out to win the last race of the day.In that same race the #42 car of Micheal Cameron lost traction and tested the tire wall in turn 4.The tires did their job and stopped the car easy and with little damage.

In the final race the # 45 car of Jason Bishara was working back to par.Willard Hurlburt in the 101 was out by now so the racing was between the #56 and #45, Paul Morris took the win in the #56.

That about covers the race day at LDMS for August 17th.The racing was exciting, the weather was excellent and every drivers goal to have fun was achieved.I guess not much more can be asked for.The next race will be next Sunday August 24th.The labor day weekend race has been canceled and moved to the 24th.Only 3 races left, plus one to replace the rained out race. The date for that one will be posted at a later date.

On behalf of everyone involved I would like to thank our die hard fans for their continued unwavering support. You guys keep coming and these drivers will continue to provide the best show possible.
