Sterling Marlin - Here to Race

This reporter caught up to Sterling Marlin at a very busy time preparing his car for the Peterbilt 250 at Speedway 660.

Hal O’Neal and his OGC race team were the ones supplying the car for Marlin to drive. AutoPride / AutoValue and Gatorade are sponsoring Marlin.

Sterling Marlin is one of the few who won the Daytona 500 twice (back to back). Marlin now races a less active schedule.

Marlin was asked a little about his history in racing. “I’ve been racing thirty some years. My dad raced. I was always with him at the Race Car shop. I started driving when I was like sixteen. My son races and my daughter is starting to race a little bit. Seeing them race is a little harder than I expected.”

Marlin was asked what he thought of the track at Speedway 660. “ It’s OK. I’ve run on other tracks like this, a quarter, three eighths and a third mile. I go to Nashville, Tennessee next.”

I asked him if he planned on doing any sightseeing while here. “ Just up here to race, then I’ll be gone.”

Marlin had the second fastest times both Saturday and Sunday in practice which speaks well of his talent and the OGC racing team.
