Matt Maillet – One of the “Serious” guys

Matt Maillet, from Burton, New Brunswick, has been behind the wheel of the 29 Sportsman at Speedway 660 for seven years. “My father, Richard Maillet, sponsored a car for a while and I helped out on the crew. Then I helped on the 29 car. The guy that was driving it had kids and stuff so he left and I got to drive this one.”

Maillet was asked if there was a reason for his number. “No, the 29 was on the car when I got it, so I kept it.”

As for championships, Maillet said “No championships yet, but I’m still trying. I came third in the points a year ago.”

There are always accidents at every race track, so Maillet was asked about his experiences. “My second race, I put our other car right into the wall.

Humour is always a part of the goings on around the race track but when I asked the question, I received a very unexpected answer. “The guys that I’ve raced against. They’re the funniest I’ve ever seen.”

Maillet was asked if he had any plans for the future regarding Pro Stock etc. “I’m happy in this division right here. This is the most competitive division right now.

As for travelling to other tracks was concerned “I used to go to River Glade, but it’s closed now. We also usually go to Shediac at the end of the year.”

Maillet ‘s closing comment was “I hope I win today.” This shows the competitive nature of this young man.
