Chris Hughes - One of the PEI 9

Chris Hughes, from Winsloe, PEI, drives the Pauley Equipment, Boto Tires 2008 Toyota Camray on the Maritime Pro Stock Tour. The car bears the big number 32 on each side. Hughes has been racing for 14 years now. He began his career in the Hobby Stock division at Raceway Park, capturing "Rookie of the Year" honours. The following year he moved on to the Modified division and acquired the "Rookie of the Year" honours in this division as well.

After a year and a half in modified, he ran a few Pro Stock events. For the past two years, he has been a regular on the Pro Stock Tour. He captured 10th overall in 2006, his first year on the Tour, and followed that up with a 5th place finish last year.

In response to his favourite tracks, Hughes quickly replied " I like Scotia quite a bit .... I'm getting to run pretty good here ..... Last Fall I had a good run and I was in contention to win.  But then there is Riverside. That's one awesome facility and a great place to race."

Hughes continued on with " This is the first year we've had a sponsor that's not one of our own companies. We signed Pauley Equipment this year. Cecil Pauley and the heavy equipment guys have been awesome,"

As for accidents, Hughes does not recall many memorable ones but "It was at the old Riverside when they had the creosault posts. I stuffed one nearly into my feet one night. That was very scary." Moving on to his funniest experience at the track, Hughes recalled " One night at Shediac, my steering wheel came off in my hands just as we were coming down for the green flag. I managed to get it back on in time though."

Speaking of his competition for today's (May 24th, 2008) race, Hughes stated " You hear lots of things. We tested here twice in preparation for this one and so have a couple of others. Wayne Snith, Kent Vincent, Lonnie Sommerville and about 15 other guys are racing. as well. You just have to be in the right spot at the right time."
