A STOCKCAR NUT

HERE I SIT IN MY EASY CHAIR,
WITH NOTHING MUCH TO DO.
MISSING MY STOCKCAR RACING,
AND GETTING THE WINTER BLUES.

I ALREADY STARTED THE COUNTDOWN,
TILL THE DAYTONA IS ON TV.
WHEN THEY DROP THE GREEN FLAG,
IT ALWAYS PLEASES ME

I LIKE TO WATCH IT ON TV,
OR ALIVE UP IN THE STANDS.
I’M ALWAYS SO DISAPPOINTED,
WHEN THE WEATHER ISN’T MY FRIEND

I LOVE WATCHING NASCAR ON TV,
AND WATCHING THE STARS GO AROUND.
MY FIRST CHOICE IS AT THE LOCAL TRACK,
AND THEY ARE NOT FAR OUT OF TOWN

MOST OF THE DRIVERS THAT RACE AROUND HERE,
HAVE STARTED TO BUILD NEW MACHINES.
THEY WORK MOST EVERY EVENING,
TO BE READY FOR THE SPRING.

THE BEST WILL BE AT THE CAR SHOW,
AND SHOWING WHAT THEY GOT.
YOU CAN ALWAYS FIND ME THERE,
LOOKING OVER THE NEW STOCKS

RACE CAR POETRY

From the earliest times, the exploits of our heroes, both near and far, have been captured in poetry and song. Monctonian, Al Donovan, runs true to this theme, and some of his entertaining tales are placed here to entertain you and maybe stir up a memory or two.

If you have some you would like to share, please feel free to send them. I would love to make them part of this site.

ODE TO CHERI ARMSTRONG

SHE USED TO WATCH HER DADDY RACE,
WHEN SHE WAS JUST A TOT.
BY FOLLOWING HER DEAR DAD AROUND,
THE RACING BUG SHE CAUGHT.

SHE SAID TO HER HUSBAND KEVIN,
I’D LIKE TO GIVE RACING A TRY.
THEY FOUND A SPORTSMAN IN HALIFAX,
THEY DROVE DOWN TO MAKE THE BUY.

SHE CHOSE THE NUMBER NINETY-ONE,
FROM HER DADS OLD RACING TOY.
HE DROVE IN HAMMOND RIVER,
WHEN ADAM WAS JUST A BOY.

WHEN NINETY-ONE COMES ON THE TRACK,
THE FANS THEY STAND AND CHEER.
HER DRIVING HAS IMPROVED,
A HUNDRED AND TEN PERCENT THIS YEAR.

WE SEE YOU RUNNING ON THE RAIL,
WE KNOW YOU HAVE NO FEAR.
SHOW THE GUYS THE WAY TO DRIVE,
CAUSE THEY’VE BEEN AROUND FOR YEARS.

HER CREW CHIEF, HUSBAND KEVIN,
MAKES SURE THE CAR IS RIGHT.
HE ALWAYS WANTS THE BEST FOR HER,
CAUSE SHE’S HIS LOVING WIFE.

YOU ALWAYS CAN’T GET THE CHECKER,
SOMETIMES ITS TOUGH AND LEAN.
YOU NEVER HAVE TO WORRY,
CAUSE YOU’RE THE OVAL QUEEN.

AL DONOVAN

In Memory of Scott

He was born in Halifax in the year seventy-one
To Frankie and Grace a bundle of joy.
A beautiful child with sparkling eyes,
Grandparents were happy for the handsome boy.

Laughing and happy as a child growing up,
Always inquisitive as a very young lad.
Running around without any worry,
Always a favourite with his Mom and Dad.

As a boy growing up he always loved cars,
And mechanically minded he was.
He learned from his Dad how to build and repair,
And coyuld fix anything run on gas.

He started racing while still in his teens,
And won rookie award the first time.
Most wins in a year at Onslow Speedway,
To him stockcar racing was fine.

As he moved up the ladder in his racing career,
In MASCAR he won dozens of trophies and plaques.
He joined the King team, to the States he then went,
And was leader on most of their tracks.

Every driver I met had nothing but praise,
They said Scottie was a real gentleman.
Everyone knew if they needed parts or advice,
Scottie was there with a hand.

I remember the day so very well,
That I heard the very sad news.
Of Scottie’s very sudden demise,
from an accident with a ski-doo.

Every racecar I see, I remember you Scott,
00.... they placed on the side.
We still talk today of how great you were,
And you will always be remembered with pride.

Scott when you look down from heaven,
And see all your friends that are here.
Please ask God to bless us,
Until we all meet up there

WHEN I’M AT THE LOCAL TRACK,
YOU CAN FIND ME IN THE PIT .
VISITING ALL THE DRIVERS AND CREW,
EXCHANGING JOKES AND GOSSIP.

I KNOW MOST OF THE DRIVERS,
IN SPORTSMEN AND PROSTOCK.
THEY WORK HARD ALL YEAR LONG,
AND SOMETIMES AROUND THE CLOCK.

THERE IS NO FORTUNE TO BE MADE,
AT THE LOCAL STOCKCAR TRACKS.
THEY HAVE TO GET GOOD SPONSORS,
TO BREAK EVEN, THAT’S A FACT.

WE ARE ALL JUST ADDICTS,
WHEN IT COMES TO THE RACING SPORT.
WE KNOW HOW TO GET A FIX,
TO THE TRACK WE THEN REPORT.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL YOU DRIVERS,
AND PIT CREW WHO BREAK THEIR BACKS.
AWAITING FOR NEXT SUMMER,
TO SEE YOU AT THE TRACK.

CONTACT US

THE LANGILLES

I was working at the race track,
As a reporter from the pits.
I saw him taking pictures,
A way high up in his perch.

A van was parked below it,
With wwwracingspectator on the side.
A pretty lady sitting in it,
Taking the action all in stride.

I asked her what the writing meant,
And she answered with a smile.
It's a web site about racing,
My husband ran for quite awhile.

I made my way up the ladder,
To where Bruce was taking pics.
Of all the action on the track,
And to his web side he'd afix.

I proceeded to interview him,
For all the race fans that were there.
So they could know about the coverage,
Of every race track far and near.

Bruce has run the web site,
Since the millennum began.
Gets over a million hits a year.
From all the racing fans.

He keeps up with all the race news, And dozens of pictures of each event.
They travel the tri-provinces,
Its their own money that is spent.

Thank you to the Langilles,
For bringing racing to our home.
We can see whats happing,
If on your web site we just roam.

Day at the Centre

Last Sunday I had a chance
To attend the Shediac races.
The day was great, the weather fine,
The Sportsman crew were the Greatest.

Many Sportsmen did show up
To prove that they were the best.
The laps were close in all events,
And everyone passed the test.

Laurie Cormier in his fifty-three,
He was looking really good.
Then a driver spun in front of him,
And Laurie lost his fenders and hood.

I was surprised to hear the announcer,
Call him”Stinger” on the track.
Hell, the name sure stuck I pinned on him
When I gave him the picture plaque.

The crash involved the “Stinger”,
And a few of the other guys.
He hit the pits and went to work,
And he had no time to cry.

He learned his skills from dear old dad,
When Adelard drove old fifty-three.
The colours the same for fifty years,
It sure brings back old memories.

He qualified for the main event,
By winning the Last Chance race.
He started last in that event,
But he really set the pace.

The main event of the day,
Saw the “Stinger” start in back.
But it wasn’t long into the race,
He started burning up the track.

Good Gary took the checker,
By setting a steady pace.
I’ve been at Shediac many times,
But this was really a great race.

I would like to say to Laurie,
You were the highlight of the day.
Hell, if only you had some fenders,
You would have taken home top pay.

Thanks to all the Sportsmen drivers,
You’re the cream of the oval track.
You and your crews do a real good job,
And next year we hope you’ll all be back.

The Man in Black

The Heaven 500, was just getting started,
an All-Star race, for the racing departed.
Heroes of the track, with nerves like steel,
and sitting on the pole was a cat named Neil.

Adam Petty was there, with his beautiful smile,
Kenny Irwin determined, to finish in style.
Lee Petty was glowing, with that Grandfather pride,
with Davey and Clifford Allison, both in a new ride.

Fireball Roberts & J.D. McDuffie, floated in on a cloud,
while Tony Roper waved, to the Heavenly crowd.
Rob Morosso & John Nemecheck, then Tim Richmond appeared,
Alan Kulwicki strapped in, while racing fans cheered.

The honorary starter, for this Heavenly race,
Ralph Earnhardt was chosen, a tear on his face.
But the red flag flew, just before it had begun,
and every eye, was open wide, and looking to the SON.

A last minute entry, was the cause for the delay,
while the fans were instructed, to kneel and pray.
The Heavens turned black, and the clouds turned dark,
the lightning was brilliant, the thunder did bark.

Then out of the rumble, for all there to see,
the clouds formed a number, a black # 3.
The Heavenly fans, then erupted with pride,
and welcomed this star, who had recently died.

With a bolt of lightning, Dale Earnhardt arrived,
as he stood before Jesus, his spirit revived.
Jesus hugged his precious child, then revealed his perfect plan,
"I brought you home, to let you know, that I'm your biggest fan"!

"The Intimidator" was needed, for this heavenly race,
leaving all of your earthly fans, with honor and grace.
Ralph Earnhardt then stepped forward, embracing his
son, then whispered in the ear of Dale,
"Let's go and have some fun!"

As Ralph stood proud, the green flag flew,
the crowd went wild and the tension grew.
And just like Salvation, the admission is free,
as every eye focused, on the black number three.

When the checkered flag dropped, no dry eyes remained,
it was a photo finish, as Jesus explained.
He said, "There are no losers, on this Heavenly track,
this was a welcome home party, for the Man In Black"!

THANK YOU McLEANS

I FIRST MET ERNIE AND WINONA,
WHEN FROM TORONTO THEY MOVED BACK. THEY BOUGHT A FARM IN RIVER GLADE, AND BUILT A STOCK-CAR TRACK. THEY

BOTH WORKED HARD IN STARTING UP, JUST LIKE ANY BUSINESS WOULD. THEY MADE THE SPEEDWAY A SUCCESS,
WE SAY THATS REALLY GOOD.

IT'S THE LONGEST RUNNING SPEEDWAY, YOU'LL FIND HERE IN THE EAST. BECAUSE THE McLEANS STARTED IT,
WE'RE ALL SO VERY PLEASED.

THEY SOLD THE BUSINESS A FEW YEARS AGO, BUT IT DOSEN'T MEAN THEY'RE ALL DONE, YOU CAN STILL FIND ERNIE AT THE TRACK, HELPING HIS TWO SONS.

THEY ARE ALL STILL INVOLVED IN RACING, AND DECIDED TO HONOUR DRIVERS BY NAME, THEY BOTH WORK HARD IN SETTING UP, THE MOTORSPORTS HALL OF FAME.

THANK YOU WINONA AND ERNIE,
FOR BRINGING US YEARS OF JOY.
WE GO TO THE GLADES ON WEEKENDS, TO WATCH THE GOOD OLD BOYS
