The IWK 250 weekend is supposed to be the “premier” weekend of the summer for race fans and the management and staff did everything they could to ensure that this happened.

The two day affair had Legend and Sportsman racing on Friday evening with the Legends having a guest driver in Chad Windsor from Capital City Speedway in Ottawa, Ontario participating, compliments of MacLean Motorsports in New Glasgow. Windsor captured the 50 lap feature in fine style and was very popular among fans and drivers alike. Saturday was reserved for the Pro Stocks and the IWK 250. NASCAR star Marcos Ambrose was on hand, signing autographs and talking to fans throughout the day. During the “Meet and Greet” portion, Ambrose’s line dwarfed most of the other drivers.
The racing was exciting, the entertainment was excellent, in short, everything went off like clockwork. The large crowd in attendance got their moneys worth and more and went home happy.
Marcos Ambrose was a big hit with the fans and with the kids at the IWK. He also put on quite a show in the racecar, driving at or near the front until mechanical issues finally forced him to retire around lap 185.

Elsewhere on the weekend. Scotia ran features only on Friday night due to extreme fog and wet weather imminent all evening. From all reports the racing was wild and exciting with the Lightning division creating a crash fest at the finish line.

Sunday afternoon, Shediac had a series of 50 lapper invitationals amid some very hot and humid weather. The action again was close and exciting with the win by 15 year old Matt Rodgers in the Super Sportsman division, his first feature ever, being the highlight.

This coming weekend, the racing again picks up with action from the four corners of the Maritimes. Scotia kicks things off with a full card of Points championship racing on Friday evening. Then the AOW journey down Yarmouth way to Lake Doucette for a Saturday afternoon affair. This is accompanied by a giant Demolition afterwards so the “barnyard will be burning” in Lake Doucette.

Saturday evening the action gets going again on two fronts. The Carquest Pro Stock Tour takes to the Geary oval near Fredericton for 100 laps of heart pounding excitement. This is the Tour’s only regular stop at Speedway 660  this year although the Peterbilt 250 is also part of their schedule on Labour Day.

While this is going on, the Centre for Speed also has a full Points event on tap, followed by a “barrel” race. These novelty events are popular with the fans and CFS is offering $20.00 carload admission as well.

Also announced this week is a tentative reschedule date for the “Monster Mayhem” monster truck show. August 28th is the tentative date announced and this will be confirmed in the next few days, as soon as the paperwork is all signed.

Freddie Prosser has taken his racecar to Newfoundland this week and is racing at Thunder Valley Speedway, near Bishop Falls, NFLD this weekend. After Prosser’s excellent runs at the IWK, look for Prosser to pick up some hardware on the “Rock”

There is racing at the smaller tracks as well this weekend so no matter where you live, there is racing near you.

Remember, keep the pedal to the metal and turn left, but keep the racing on the track and not on our streets !!!
