Chris Cormier

Chris Cormier - Starting to “Rock and Roll”

Chris Cormier, from Moncton, NB, has been around racing forever. “My dad raced when I was little so I was around racing nearly my whole life.”

Chris continued “I started in Sportsman a few years ago, but I never raced a whole season. This is my first full run and if it goes well, hopefully, I’ll be back next year.”

Knowing that Chris had previously owned an Open Wheel car, he was asked about that. “I have an Open Wheel car that I bought in Calgary. I never raced the car myself. It’s an IMCA modified. That’s what they started the AOW with here. We raced it one year in River Glade in the Outlaw race. Jim Duke drove it. I still have it in my yard. I bought it when I was twenty two years old.”

With the economy today, Cormier was asked about his sponsorship. “I work for General Construction and a lot of the sub-contractors sponsor me. Also, my brother is the head of the Lions club.” With a laugh Cormier continued “He’s a good talker. That’s why he’s my PR guy. My sponsors are happy. All I can do is my best every week. We’re doing pretty good and I’m learning every time out.”

Chris then talked about his first win. “On my first race out in Shediac last week, I won and that felt pretty good. Hopefully, I’ll get more.”

Moving to a higher powered class is always in the back of the minds of Sportsman drivers, but not Cormier. “I’m not going up a class. I like this one. It’s very competitive. The Pro Stocks take a lot of time and a lot more money. I mostly do all the work myself.”

With that, Cormier left to go out for his first practice session.
