Ron Beauchamp Jr. - Just out of Reach

Ron Beauchamp Jr., of Windsor, Ontario, has made his third trip to Riverside Speedway. This reporter caught up with him on Sunday morning after Saturday’s rainout.

Beauchamp was asked how he got involved in racing. “My Dad was involved in racing and worked on a race team when I was a kid so I’ve been around race cars most of my life. I started racing when I was sixteen at “Checkered Flag Speedway”, our local track. I started in the Street Stock division and moved up the ranks from there.”

Beauchamp was asked about the number “60” on his NASCAR Canadian Tire car and how that came about. “When I moved up to the next level, I had a choice of numbers and 60 was the coolest of those I had to choose from, and it has stuck with me for nineteen years now.”

As for championships, Beauchamp won the CASCAR eastern series championship in 1998. Moving

up is on the minds of many race car teams. “I would like to get into a “Nationwide” car or the truck series if I could. If not, I’ll just stay where I am, here in Canada.”

Beauchamp was running in third place on the tour, and was asked what his chances of capturing the championship were. “Mathematically, I can move up, but I don’t think it will happen. My goal now is to get second spot. Now, we’re so close.”

With Riverside International Speedway being the “golden jewel” of Canadian tracks, Beauchamp was asked his opinion. “Beautiful facility. I hope to win it this time. I came in third last year. I like coming out here. Everyone from the dealership worked on our car, and the people were nice. We all worked on our cars there. I’d like to put this track in my suitcase and take it home with me.”
